Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Jamal Kocher, confirmed on Saturday that the drop in oil prices will not affect the operating budget, explaining that salaries are being disbursed according to the Financial Management Law, which uses a 1/12 formula, making salaries safe, especially with the approaching election date.
Kocher explained, in a statement to {Euphrates News} that “there are no new developments yet regarding sending the 2025 budget tables to Parliament,” expecting that “this will happen next October.” However, he expressed his personal doubts about the government’s commitment to sending the tables on time, indicating that a delay is very likely.
It is noteworthy that Iraq has approved a three-year budget for the years (2023-2025) for the first time in its history, but submitting annual schedules for each year remains a necessary procedure to ensure the disbursement of allocations.
Amidst the economic and political changes, the Iraqi public is anticipating the outcome, especially as local and parliamentary elections approach. This presents the government with multiple challenges to ensure financial stability.
