Member of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Salam Hussein, confirmed on Saturday that Baghdad possesses conclusive historical evidence proving that Khor Abdullah does not belong to the State of Kuwait, but to Iraq.
Hussein said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The previous decision of the Federal Supreme Court to abort the parliament’s vote on the Khor Abdullah agreement was correct and based on solid legal and historical foundations,” noting that “the judicial decision regarding Khor Abdullah is still not implemented and has not yet been sent to the United Nations.”
He explained that “the judiciary and the Federal Court will be an impenetrable barrier against political wills that are trying to relinquish any part of Iraqi territory in favor of Kuwait,” warning that “Kuwait seeks to close Iraqi maritime spaces and impose its complete control over navigation in the region with the aim of harming the Grand Faw Port.”
He stressed that “Iraq must take a clear and legal position to preserve its sovereignty and strategic interests,” noting that “the Khor Abdullah file will not be closed as long as there are historical documents proving Iraq’s right to it.”
Kuwaiti media reported earlier that the President of the Republic and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had filed two separate appeals before the Federal Supreme Court in Iraq against its decision to invalidate Law No. 42 of 2013 regarding the ratification of the agreement between Iraq and Kuwait regulating navigation in Khor Abdullah, demanding that it be rescinded and that the agreement concluded between the two countries be restored.
