A responsible source in the Anbar local government revealed today, Friday, that Jordan has frozen the assets of the head of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi, due to his inclusion in the US sanctions law.
The source said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency that “Jordan froze the assets of the head of the Progress Alliance, the expelled Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, because he was included in the decision of the US Federal Bank, days after he failed to recover his funds seized in the Emirates.”
He added that “Al-Halbousi seized huge sums of money after assuming the position of Anbar Governor and Speaker of the House of Representatives, and they were smuggled to Jordan, the Emirates, Turkey and other countries,” indicating that “Al-Halbousi failed to convince the US administration to lift the freeze on his frozen funds outside Iraq during his last visit, explaining that “the latter owns, in an undeclared manner, banks and exchange offices used in currency smuggling operations from Iraq to neighboring countries.”
He added, “Al-Halbousi’s talks with the King of Jordan failed to release the frozen assets to include Al-Halbousi in the US sanctions decision.”
