Iraqi ISIS mechanic admits sabotaging an American plane{International: Al Furat News} A man with “potential” links to ISIS fighters in Iraq, who works mechanically with an American airline, acknowledged his involvement in the sabotage of a plane, which was carrying 150 passengers.
According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the mechanic {Abdul Majid Marouf Ahmad} admitted, on Wednesday, in the Miami Federal Court, that he had committed “sabotage” on an American Airlines plane.
The US Department of Justice revealed that the 60-year-old was charged with “attempting to sabotage a plane”, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
“I admit guilt,” he told investigators, which means he will benefit from a reduced prison sentence, when he is sentenced on March 4.
The accident occurred on July 4, during a trip that was scheduled to leave Miami in the direction of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.
As the pilots prepared to take off, they received a notification indicating an “error” in the plane’s computer, which caused them to decide to return it to the “routine maintenance” section.
And one of the maintenance workers discovered the presence of a material of “polystyrene” at the front (nose) of the plane, which was a “Boeing 737″, which led to the failure of a mechanism, specialized in monitoring some numbers, such as flight speed, altitude and degree of vibration of the plane.
After observing the footage of the surveillance cameras, the investigators identified the face of Abdel-Majid Marouf Ahmed, who appeared while carrying out his sabotage mission, whose motives are unknown.
And the authorities said that what the perpetrator, who hails from Iraq, could have caused “the plane to crash”, if it took off.
The prosecution stated that ISIS videos were found on a known phone, Ahmed, and that his brother “may have been involved with the extremist organization.”
