Baghdad: Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf said on Thursday that Iraq intends to open a consulate in the eastern regions of Saudi Arabia.
“As part of the inauguration of the new consulate in Baghdad today, Iraq will initiate a corresponding effort in this context and perhaps we will see coordination with the Saudi side to open an Iraqi consulate in some eastern regions of Saudi Arabia,” Sahaf said. He added that this “will contribute to raising the level of trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.”
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced earlier Thursday the opening of the Saudi consulate in Baghdad in the presence of Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim.
