Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, revealed, on Thursday, the ministry’s procedures after the European Union’s decision to place Iraq among the most dangerous countries by laundering money, likely leaving it before the end of this year.
Al-Sahaf said, according to the official agency, that “most of the countries of the world are on the European list of the most dangerous countries with money laundering,” noting that “there are international standards that are followed by the relevant authorities in the European Union to assess countries.”
He added, “The Foreign Ministry entered the stage of urgent procedures in coordination with the Central Bank and the Iraqi national authorities to confirm Iraq ‘s implementation of the necessary laws and standards and its right to exit the list.”

He explained, “There is international acceptability and harmony with Iraq,” stressing that “there are indications that Iraq will leave the European list soon.”
Al-Sahaf added that “Iraq, which fought the groups of atonement and extremism, completes the pages of its confrontation with it by drying its financial and ideological sources, and in coordination with all of its partners and friends. Also, the Foreign Minister’s message to his counterparts in European countries met with wide presence and echo.”
And that “the ministry is closely following the urgent coordination steps that our embassies are conducting in European countries, to delete the name of Iraq from the list of high-risk countries, after Iraq has met compliance with due standards in this regard.” End 29 / A 43
