Iraq held important meetings to remove its name from the list of high-risk countries, the last of which was his request from the German side to reject the European Commission’s decision to include it in the list of high-risk countries.
“The Iraqi Foreign Ministry is conducting meetings and meetings with prominent and influential European personalities, to remove Iraq from the list of high-risk countries in money laundering and terrorist financing,” said the spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, in a statement reported by the Russian Sputnik Agency.
For his part, political analyst Wathiq Al-Jabri said, “Iraq must take a set of internal measures and activate the judiciary and the Integrity Commission to fight corruption and pursue funds, especially those that come out under the pretext of import. These measures will lead to building confidence and obtaining international support.”
On Wednesday, Iraq, Germany, demanded that the European Commission’s decision be included in the list of high-risk countries.
“The Chargé d’Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Berlin, Ahmed Al-Saadi, asked the German side at the virtual meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Germany to reject the decision of the European Commission Regarding placing Iraq on the list of high-risk countries in the area of money laundering and terrorist financing. ”
Al-Sahaf added that Al-Saadi also asked the German side to condemn Turkish military attacks on Iraqi sovereignty. Ended 6/29 N
