Shafaq News/ The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, said on Monday that the Iraqi parliamentary elections may be postponed in the event of an emergency.
Al-Mashhadani added in an interview with Al-Hadath channel, which was followed by Shafaq News Agency, that “the parliamentary elections will be held on time if the elections law is approved.”
Regarding the conflict between the Iraqi factions and Israel, the Speaker of the House of Representatives pointed out that “the armed factions responded to demands to stop attacks on Israel,” indicating that “American pressure stopped Israel’s intentions to launch attacks on Iraq.”
But Al-Mashhadani said, “Israel’s threats to carry out strikes on Iraq are still worrying.”
US-Iran conflict
Al-Mashhadani stressed that “Iraq cannot stand by one side if an American-Iranian conflict erupts.”
He pointed out that “the American presence in Iraq will be regulated soon,” noting that “US President-elect Donald Trump stressed to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani the necessity of restricting weapons to the state.”
Syrian affair
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament announced his “rejection of the partition scenario in Syria,” stressing that “Iraq will not interfere in Syria’s internal affairs.”
He pointed out that “the deterioration of security in Syria will have negative repercussions on the region,” noting that “what is happening in Syria affects Iraq.”
Al-Mashhadani warned of a “quota government in Syria similar to Iraq,” and he also referred to an Iraqi warning to Syria of “the consequences of not respecting the rights of minorities.”
He announced an agreement with Syria to “prevent the expansion of armed groups.” The Speaker of the House of Representatives pointed out that “Turkish hegemony is clear in Syria and this is a matter of concern,” adding, “We do not want Turkey to replace Iran in Syria.”
He pointed out that “Iran is upset about what happened in Syria and has many concerns.”
