The head of a coalition of state law, Nuri al-Maliki, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, who arrived in the capital Baghdad today.
Maliki held a dinner in honor of Barzani and his accompanying delegation and invited a number of officials, including the head of the Fatah alliance, Hadi al-Amiri.
This is the first meeting of its kind between the two sides, after a long period of estrangement because of differences that have soured relations between Erbil and Baghdad in the past during Maliki’s premiership of the government for two previous sessions.
