Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, Iraq is not part of the system of US sanctions on Iran, and that Baghdad is not obliged to respect, stressing that he does not accept orders and dictates.
“The US sanctions against Iran are not international,” Abdul Mahdi said in a press statement. “This is a US decision that concerns its policy, not an Iraqi resolution or UN resolutions.
“We are not part of any aggression against another country. There are countries that are hostile to the West or the United States. We are not part of certain organizations to target the interests of states, nor are we part of any third party that has a presence in Iraq, On Iraq.
He added that Iraq has informed the American side explicitly, please do not come to us with orders, you have plans to discuss with Iraq, and Iraq takes a position, but dictations, we do not accept.
The US embassy in Iraq said about two weeks ago that Iraq can continue to import gas from Iran for 45 days until an alternative resource is found.
