The Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, met in Paris, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Laudrian. During the meeting, they stressed the importance of developing historical relations between the two friendly countries and increasing cooperation in all fields.
During the meeting, the prime minister said that Iraq and its people are keen to establish the best relations with France and to continue cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and its results and enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi forces, praising France’s stand with Iraq in its war against its role in the humanitarian fields. Stability and assistance to the displaced, and the importance of continued cooperation and support the direction of the government and its economic plans and contribute to reconstruction and construction and encourage French companies to increase their presence in Iraq in the light of stability and normal life in all provinces.
“Iraq’s growing regional role, its growing relations with surrounding countries, international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, the issue of detained criminals and many issues of mutual concern have also been discussed,” it added.
For his part, the French foreign minister expressed his “desire to develop cooperation with Iraq and support the Iraqi government to implement its programs and meet the requirements of the Iraqi people.”
In the presence of the Prime Minister, the Iraqi and French Foreign Ministers signed a cooperation agreement in the economic, cultural, social, military and training fields.
He also met French Defense Minister Florence Barley, where he held a reception for his sovereignty at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Paris.
