Parliamentary request to reduce the salaries of the three presidencies - senior officials and representativesShafaq News/ State of Law Coalition MP Firas Al-Maslamawi revealed on Friday that more than 60 parliamentary signatures have been collected to amend the civil servants’ salary scale law, as well as reduce the salaries of the three presidencies, representatives, and special grades.

Al-Maslamawi told Shafaq News Agency, “More than 60 signatures were collected from members of the House of Representatives to amend the civil servants’ salary scale law, on the condition that this amendment includes reducing the salaries of the three presidencies, representatives, and all special grades across Iraq to achieve social justice.”

He added, “We support the demands of teachers and all segments of employees in all ministries and state institutions,” noting that “the request was submitted to the House of Representatives Presidency to activate the work of the Salaries Committee to achieve social justice in employee salaries, and that the minimum salary for employees will be determined later.”

Yesterday, Thursday, the Iraqi Parliament held a session to discuss the demands of educational staff, as part of the first legislative chapter of the fourth legislative year of the fifth electoral cycle.

Several Iraqi governorates are witnessing widespread protests organized by teachers and employees, demanding improved living conditions, the establishment of their rights, and an amendment to the salary scale.

It’s worth noting that over the past few years, numerous calls have been made by MPs, politicians, and citizens to amend the salary scale for employees, given the significant disparity between ministries. There have also been calls to reduce the salaries of the three presidencies, ministers, senior officials, and MPs.
