Shafaq News/ Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani attributed the failure to resume oil exports through the pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on Tuesday to technical problems between Erbil and Baghdad. He also praised the efforts of the federal government, headed by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, to prevent Iraq from slipping into the ongoing conflict in the region.
This came in a statement he made to reporters today in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of his visit to the United Arab Emirates.
President Nechirvan Barzani addressed the issue of forming the new government for the region and the ongoing talks between the two main parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). He said that there is a serious dialogue between the two parties in this regard, and that the main reason for the delay in talks between them is the Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr holidays. He added, “However, we are on the right track to be able to form the new government for Kurdistan.”
Regarding the resumption of Kurdistan Region oil exports, he noted the existence of some technical problems preventing this, stressing that the regional government is fully prepared to resume oil exports through the pipeline.
The President of the Kurdistan Region spoke about the tensions in the region, noting that “Baghdad, and especially Mr. Al-Sudani, did everything in their power to prevent Iraq from being drawn into these tensions and conflicts.” He added that “Iraq’s problems are not insignificant, and the country should not be drawn into these regional problems in any way.”
