Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made a phone call to US President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening, stressing the Kingdom’s desire to expand its investments and trade relations with Washington.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed, during the call, the congratulations of the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his congratulations to President Trump on taking the constitutional oath and assuming the presidency of the United States of America, and “their wishes for the friendly American people to progress and prosperity under his leadership.”
During the call, they discussed ways of cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States of America to establish peace, security and stability in the Middle East region, in addition to enhancing bilateral cooperation to combat terrorism, according to “SPA”.
The call also discussed strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, as the Saudi Crown Prince pointed out the ability of the Trump administration, with its expected reforms in the United States, to “create unprecedented economic prosperity, and the Kingdom seeks to benefit from its available opportunities for partnership and investment.”
Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed the Kingdom’s desire to expand its investments and trade relations with the United States over the next four years by $600 billion, which is expected to increase if additional opportunities become available.
For his part, the US President expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Saudi King and Crown Prince for their congratulations, stressing his keenness to work with the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on everything that would serve their common interests.
Donald Trump revealed the condition of his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia again, when he answered a journalist’s question about this during the signing of a number of executive orders in the Oval Office after his inauguration, saying: “The first foreign trip is usually with the United Kingdom, but I did it with Saudi Arabia last time because they agreed to buy us $450 billion worth of our products.”
He continued: “I told them that day: I will do it, but you have to buy American products, and they agreed to that. They bought $450 billion worth of products. I don’t know, if Saudi Arabia wants to buy another $450 billion worth of products or $500 billion worth of products, we will raise the amount with all the inflation.”
