Parliament is inactive.. Al-Mashhadani negotiates with the blocs and calls for a parliamentary meeting - Urgent PoliticalShafaq News/ The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, held a meeting with the heads of the parliamentary blocs to discuss the possibility of approving important laws, while representatives ruled out holding council sessions during the current stage, due to a series of challenges facing the legislative authority during the fifth parliamentary session.

In the context, the representative of the Fatah Alliance, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, told Shafaq News Agency, “There is difficulty in holding sessions of the House of Representatives, due to disagreements over controversial laws, and in addition to these laws, the amendment of the budget law, there are various parliamentary observations and objections to the amendment, which hinders holding the session due to the quorum.”

In addition to these differences, there is a boycott by the Progress parliamentary bloc, and this also affected the holding of the sessions, and therefore the differences and boycott lead to the disruption of the sessions, according to Al-Moussawi.

In conclusion, the Al-Fatah MP called for “holding an urgent parliamentary-political meeting to resolve the differences and prevent the disruption of oversight and legislative work, especially since the parliament’s term is approaching its end.”

Last week, the Progress Bloc, led by Mohammed al-Halbousi, announced that it would boycott the sessions of the House of Representatives, due to the breach of political agreements regarding the approval of the general amnesty law.

In addition to the amnesty law that is suspended in the Iraqi parliament, there is a group of laws described as controversial and controversial, which are still being passed, due to the lack of agreement between the political blocs regarding them, including the Personal Status Law, the Law on Returning Properties to Their Owners, as well as important draft laws such as oil and gas, amending the budget schedules, the Intelligence Service Law, and retirement.

These laws face the risk of being postponed to the sixth parliamentary session, given the remaining life of the current parliament and the ongoing debate over them, at a time when the current session has been exposed to a series of political shocks that have negatively affected the performance of its representatives at the level of legislation and oversight.
