A high-ranking delegation headed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein went to the United States of America, in preparation for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to Washington and his meeting with the US President, Donald Trump, on August 20.
Representative, Ikhlas Al-Dulaimi said, “A delegation headed today to America, headed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and a large number of financial and economic advisers and experts to study the situation and relations between the Iraqi government and the US administration.

The foreign minister will meet with his American counterpart Mike Pompeo during the visit, and Al-Dulaimi indicated that there are agreements. to strengthen relations between the two countries.

On August 8, the media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement that Al-Kazemi will conduct an official visit to the United States at the head of a government delegation, based on an official invitation, and will meet with Trump on the sidelines of the visit, on August 20.

Al-Dulaimi clarified that the meeting of the presidents, Iraqi ministers and their counterpart ministers will discuss the situation between the two countries, “and this visit will have a positive effect, especially since there has been a great coldness in relations between the United States and Iraq recently due to the negative reflection of international problems on the Iraqi arena.”

In Washington, the Prime Minister will discuss relations between the two countries and issues of common interest, and cooperation in the fields of security, energy, health, economy and investment, in addition to the Corona pandemic file, according to a statement by Al-Kazemi’s office.

The deputy went on to say: “We are encouraged by this visit to enhance economic and security cooperation, and we expect that the visit will have an international response in the coming days, especially with the great American interest in Iraq to restore confidence between the two countries.”

This is the first visit that Al-Kazemi makes to the United States, since the formation of his government last May.

The visit comes after Baghdad and Washington conducted a first round of talks in the framework of the “strategic dialogue” last June, to redraw the relations between the two countries, which are organized by the “strategic framework” agreement.

Currently, about 5 thousand American soldiers are deployed in Iraq within the framework of the international coalition against “ISIS” led by the United States.
