On Thursday, the deputy of the Al-Fateh coalition, Qusay Abbas, considered the prime minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi’s abandonment of the mandate as an attempt to win over the demonstrators, while the government of the outgoing Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi blamed the recent escalation in the demonstrations and popular protests.
Abbas said in a press statement, “The hinting of Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to abandon this mandate is not new, as he had previously indicated this in the first speech he delivered after the commissioning,” noting that “his use of the issue of the recent escalation is only to gain affection and satisfaction in arenas. Demonstrating that he was not responsible for the escalation that led to casualties among the demonstrators.

He added that “the government of the resigned prime minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, is responsible for the recent escalation in the popular demonstrations and protests, not the Allawi government.”

With regard to political pressure to form the government, Abbas stressed that “some blocs are pressuring the Prime Minister-designate to obtain ministerial positions, and this is possible and is supposed to reveal these entities that are pressing and dictating it.”

And the Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi warned, today, Thursday, that the country is slipping into dangerous curves due to the recent events in the provinces of Baghdad and Najaf, while the events of the last two days are a dangerous indicator and we may not continue with the task of the new government.
