On Thursday, the US House of Representatives approved measures to limit the powers of President Donald Trump to declare war on Iran, and approved a draft resolution to nullify the mandate to use military force for the 2002 Iraq war.

On Thursday, 228 members of parliament voted in favor of freezing funding for any military action against Iran without the approval of Congress, while 175 deputies voted against this measure.

This measure prohibits the president from using any federal resources unilaterally to fund military operations if Congress does not declare a state of war first.

The House of Representatives also voted in favor of repealing a 2002 resolution, which was used by US presidents to launch military operations, and it was backed by 236 deputies, compared to 166 opposed.

It is noteworthy that a number of lawmakers from the Democratic Party expressed their concern about the possibility of a new war in the wake of the assassination of the Iranian “Quds Force” commander Qassem Soleimani by order of President Trump.

The Democrats announced that they are seeking to limit the powers of the President regarding military actions.
