A source familiar with the nature and details of the talks between Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Kurdistan Region President Nigervan Barzani during the latter’s visit to Baghdad revealed on Thursday (June 20, 2019).

The source said in an interview with (Baghdad today), “Barzani said to Abdul Mahdi, you are key and ready to contact one to come to Baghdad immediately and at any time.”

He added that “the head of the region expressed his readiness to scrutinize all the details technically and said: our depth of Baghdad and not any other capital in the world or anywhere else in the world We are Iraqis and Baghdad our capital.”

“We are ready to solve the problems of oil, salaries, statistics and loans with a common vision,” he said. “We are one people and our fate is the same.”

The source pointed out that “Abdul Mahdi was very clear and frank with the President of the region and talked about differences in figures on oil and the issue of Kirkuk and all controversial issues, and was hard to overcome the courtesies and go to the solution directly.”

The source pointed out that “the Prime Minister stressed to Barzani the need for an agreement to overcome the file of the referendum on secession, the latter welcomed the idea, and agreed to sign such an agreement.”

He called on the prime minister to “form a technical team immediately from both sides to begin to develop solutions and that the group will meet early next week.”

On the atmosphere of the meeting, the source said that “Abdul Mahdi was solid in dealing with controversial issues.”

The President of the Kurdistan region arrived, Thursday (20 June 2019) to Baghdad, on his first visit since his election as President of the region, replacing Masoud Barzani, (May 28, 2019).

In the meantime, a source familiar with the interview (Baghdad today), that “Najran Barzani arrived in Baghdad today to meet with a number of officials, after assuming the post of president of the Kurdistan region.”

Barzani (June 10, 2019) was sworn in as president of the region in the presence of 1,200 local and international figures.
