Kurdistan parliament votes Wednesday to reactivate the presidency of the region(Baghdad: al-Furat News) The parliament of the Kurdistan region, next Wednesday, its normal session to vote on the draft law to reactivate the institution of the presidency of the region.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party signed with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, on Sunday, the draft political agreement to form a new government in the Kurdistan region.
“The parliament is expected to hold its regular session on Wednesday to vote on the draft law to activate the institution of the presidency of the Kurdistan region,” said the MP of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Sarko Azad in a press statement.
He added that “the Legal Committee in the Parliament of Kurdistan will be held today, a meeting to discuss some of the amendments to be introduced to the draft law and will then submit to the presidency of the Parliament of Kurdistan.”
On December 3, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) announced the nomination of the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nezhirvan Barzani, as the successor to Massoud Barzani.
The party also nominated Marzur Barzani, the son of Massoud Barzani, to serve as prime minister of Kurdistan.
The Democratic Party won 45 seats in the provincial parliament elections held at the end of September, 24 seats ahead of the nearest National Union party.
Massoud Barzani had announced in October 2017 that he did not wish to extend his term of office, which was due to expire on 1 November of that year before the holding of legislative and presidential elections in the region was postponed amid a crisis between the territorial Government and the Federal Government In Baghdad
