Iraq proposes to establish a joint bank with IranThe secretary of the Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce Hamid Hosseini revealed on Monday an Iraqi proposal presented during Zarif’s visit to Iraq, including the establishment of a joint bank with Iran.

“Our relations with Iraq were formed after the imposition of the embargo on Iraq and these relations continued in the embargo phase against Iran, so relations between the two countries are not based on banking relations,” Hosseini said in a statement.

“Iranian exporters can exchange the dinar from Iranian banks in Iraq, and in Iran they can receive a riyal from the National Bank,” he said.

Hosseini revealed the “readiness of Iraq to establish a joint bank with Iran,” noting that “during the recent talks of Foreign Minister Mohammed Zarif with the Iraqi side talk about the establishment of a joint bank between the two countries,” pointing out that “Rafidain Bank announced its readiness to establish a branch in Iran” .
