Al-Amiri said in an interview with “Baghdad today” that “230 deputies have voted so far to choose the President of the Republic,” noting that “the chances of the candidate of the National Union Barham Saleh, is the strongest so far.”

The House of Representatives began earlier Tuesday to vote for the President of the Republic, in the presence of 295 deputies.

The Chamber of Deputies held a session on Tuesday to elect the President of the Republic, headed by President Mohamed Halboussi, with 265 deputies. Ambassador Omar Al-Barzanji announced his withdrawal from the presidential candidacy, along with MP Abdel Karim Abtan, MP Salim Hamza and Abdel Latif Gamal.

The Information Service of the House of Representatives, said earlier in the day, in a statement received by (Baghdad today), “The Speaker of Parliament Mohammed Halbousi, opened the proceedings of the meeting No. (4) for the fourth parliamentary session, the first legislative year, the first legislative term.”
