New details of the earthquake in IraqAn earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale shook the outskirts of Tazaabad city in the western province of Kermanshah and was felt by Iraqi provinces at dawn on Sunday.
The seismological center of Tehran’s geophysical institution said the quake occurred at 2:15 p.m. (local time) Sunday, local time (GMT 1300 GMT).
The center said the quake occurred at a depth of 8 km from the Earth’s surface and was centered at the intersection of the northern latitudes 34.63 degrees and the eastern length 46.22 degrees.
Kermanshah governor Hoshenk Basund told the IRNA correspondent that so far there had been no reports of possible material or human damage.
According to the report, five teams were sent to assess possible damage to the quake zone.
An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit the outskirts of the western city of Azkala on November 12 last year, killing more than 600 people and injuring more than 12,000 others.
The quake also destroyed some 90,000 housing units, partially or completely, in 10 cities and 30 villages in Kermanshah province
