On Sunday, MP Saud Al-Saadi directed two simultaneous parliamentary questions to the Prime Minister and the Integrity Commission regarding the wealth of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi, financial disclosure, and “conflict of interest.”

In a statement addressed to al-Zaydi and accompanied by documents, which was received by Shafaq News Agency, al-Saadi said, “If your wealth is 21 trillion, where did you get it from? The wealth, the contracts, the companies, the banks, the financial disclosure…” The text of two letters sent to the Prime Minister and the Integrity Commission stated that he based his claims on Articles (49/First) and (61/Seventh/A) of the Constitution, Articles (15) and (27) of the House of Representatives Law No. (13) of 2018, Article (50) of the House’s Internal Regulations, and Articles (27) and (127) of the Constitution related to the sanctity of public funds and the prohibition of abuse of power.

He added that the most prominent questions included in the two books are:

1- Size of wealth: What was Al-Zidi’s wealth before he was nominated for the position? Is it true what was circulated on social media about it reaching (21) trillion dinars? Did the Integrity Commission verify it?

2- Companies and banks: How many companies, commercial projects, universities, banks, and shares inside and outside Iraq are registered in his name and the name of his family up to the first degree and his brothers?

3- Al-Awais Company and South Bank: What is the capital of Al-Awais General Trading Company and is it registered in his name? How many contracts does it have with the Ministry of Commerce and government departments? What is the capital of South Islamic Bank and how many shares does he own in it?

4- Conflict of interest: What is the constitutional basis for the continuation of Al-Awais’s contracts with the Ministry of Trade despite the fact that this constitutes a conflict of interest and a crime in the Integrity Law No. (30) of 2011? What is the mechanism for removing the conflict? Were the contracts canceled or transferred to other companies or did they continue through his brother?

5- Disclosure of assets: Did Al-Zaydi fill out the financial disclosure form for himself and his family within the legal period? What are the reasons for the delay, which is an essential condition for continuing to hold the position?

6- What is the date his business operations began and the date they ceased, according to the law?

Al-Saadi demanded an answer in accordance with the House of Representatives law.
