Salah Boushi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, affirmed Iraq’s ability to defuse the war and steer the region toward de-escalation, noting that Iraq has an opportunity to play a significant role in ending the escalation and resolving the crisis between the United States and Iran.
Boushi told Al-Maalouma, “The Iraqi initiative to form a committee of foreign ministers from the region and engage with Tehran and Washington confirms that Iraq is not merely observing the escalation but is striving to play an active diplomatic role to bridge the gaps, resume dialogue, and address contentious issues.”
He added, “Iraq aims, through its engagement with regional countries, to prevent war and protect their stability. Diplomacy is a responsibility and an initiative, not just a matter of taking a stance.”
He explained that “Iraq has an opportunity to defuse the war after the failure of Qatari mediation to contain the crisis between Washington and Tehran, as Baghdad can play an effective role in intervening to end the current escalation in the region.”
