Ali Hussein al-Fatlawi, a leader in the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, confirmed on Thursday that Baghdad is dealing with the Kurdistan Region like a big brother in all the conflicts that occur there, noting that the region has been working against Sunni and Shiite forces, and even against Kurdish forces themselves.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Fatlawi said, “The central government is playing the role of the big brother to the region in all the conflicts that have taken place there,” emphasizing that “the region is constantly working against Sunni and Shiite forces, and even against Kurdish parties within the region.”
He added that “Baghdad will not allow the situation in the Kurdistan Region to deteriorate, or for the tension that arose after the regional parliamentary elections and the subsequent rejection to escalate.”
Al-Fatlawi explained that “the region must heal its wounds and prevent a popular and security explosion within it, and it must not allow the situation in Kurdistan to deteriorate further, and it must adopt a unified political stance in cooperation with Baghdad.”
He indicated that “political forces will not allow the situation in the region to explode or any conflict to erupt, and Baghdad will take a firm stance,” noting that “Baghdad is the tent that brings all disputing parties together and resolves all conflicts.”
It is worth mentioning that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) held elections for Speaker of Parliament without consensus, despite the objections expressed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). These elections were boycotted by parties opposed to the KDP’s monopoly on positions and power in the region.
