Al-Sakini confirms the existence of American plans to ensure that agricultural crops are not imported from IranInformation/Baghdad…
Ibrahim al-Sakini, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed the existence of American plans aimed at preventing trade and the import of agricultural crops and foodstuffs from Iran.
Al-Sakini told Al-Maalouma, “Attempts to close some border crossings with Iran will lead to a disruption in the flow of goods, commodities, and foodstuffs, and this will cause a rise in the prices of vegetables and fruits in local markets.”
He added, “America is seeking to sever trade relations and ensure that imported foodstuffs from Iran do not reach Iraq, even though Iraq imports many agricultural crops from Iran at very reasonable prices.”
He explained, “There are those who are trying to support the American plans and accuse Iran of attempting to obstruct agriculture in Iraq in order to export its crops, while the truth is that no one is preventing Iraqis from farming and producing local crops. However, the need for more of these crops is what drives imports from abroad, and from Iran in particular, due to the proximity and lower prices, which is something that does not please the American side.”
