The Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Anil Bora Inan, confirmed on Wednesday evening that he had brought a delegation of 40 major Turkish companies to Kirkuk Governorate to discuss investment opportunities and implement projects in the governorate, noting that the development road would be one of the most important projects of common interest between Iraq and Turkey.

Inan told several media outlets, including Shafaq News Agency, that “my visit comes in fulfillment of a previous promise to visit Kirkuk,” adding that “representatives of Turkish companies are currently holding a closed session to discuss investment projects and opportunities available in the province.”

The Turkish ambassador noted that “relations between Türkiye and Iraq are witnessing progress in a number of files and projects, most notably the development road project and the water project, as well as other joint projects.”

He affirmed that “Turkish visits to Kirkuk will continue during the next phase, and that Turkish companies will work to explore opportunities to establish projects that contribute to developing the reality of the governorate and meeting the needs of its people.”

On Wednesday, the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Anil Bora Inan, arrived in Kirkuk Governorate, accompanied by a delegation from the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), to discuss the oil and gas sectors and opportunities for Turkish companies to operate in these sectors in the governorate.

The visit comes as a follow-up to the understandings and memoranda of understanding signed by Iraq and Turkey during Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi’s visit to Ankara and his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, particularly regarding strengthening economic and investment cooperation and opening up broader horizons for Turkish companies to work in Iraq.

Al-Zaidi had visited Turkey on July 18, 2026 and met with Erdogan. The visit witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two countries in a number of fields, including industrial property, academic training for the Police College, youth and sports, in addition to cooperation on the development road project.
