Washington warns its citizens in Iraq of attacks by Iran and militias

The US Embassy in Baghdad warned on Saturday American citizens in the Middle East region of the escalating risk of armed attacks that could be carried out by the Houthi group, as well as Iranian attempts to target US government officials in the region.
In a security alert translated by Shafaq News Agency, the embassy urged Americans to exercise extreme caution and be prepared for the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions, asking travelers to check their flight schedules directly with airlines and monitor airport conditions.
It also warned that Iran and its allied groups (factions) may target American interests abroad, or sites associated with the United States and its citizens, including American companies and institutions.
The US embassy urged its citizens to avoid demonstrations, large gatherings, and areas with heavy security presence, to monitor local media, to comply with the instructions of the Iraqi authorities, and to exercise caution in locations publicly associated with the United States and to minimize public appearances.
