URGENT Saleh abandons British citizenship

The spokesman of the Presidency of the Republic Luqman al-Fili, on Sunday, that the President of the Republic, Barham Saleh, legally abandoned the acquired nationality (British) commitment to the provisions of the Iraqi Constitution.
The official spokesman in a statement received by the agency {Euphrates News} a copy of it, that “the legal procedures for the waiver of British citizenship has been completed.”
Al-Faily added that President Saleh expressed his thanks and appreciation to the United Kingdom for granting nationality during the days of his opposition to the former regime. His resignation comes as a result of his commitment to what is stated in the Iraqi Constitution in Article 18, paragraph 4, which stipulates that persons may not acquire another nationality, Election or assignment of sovereign functions in the Republic of Iraq ”
