A judicial source reported on Wednesday that Alia Nassif was sentenced to two years in prison, based on confessions obtained from her in the case of the accused Adnan al-Jumaili.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that a five-year prison sentence was issued against Raed al-Jubouri in the same case.
For its part, the Integrity Commission announced the issuance of a severe prison sentence against Alia Nassif Jassim and Raed Al-Jubouri, on the grounds of their benefiting from public office, noting that they are obligated to return the amount of benefit, which amounts to 10 billion dinars.
It is worth noting that Iraqi security forces arrested the former governor of Salah al-Din, Raed Ibrahim al-Jubouri, last June, following confessions made by Adnan al-Jumaili, the Iraqi Deputy Minister of Oil.
Last September, the Federal Integrity Commission announced two judicial rulings against MP Alia Nassif: the first, a seven-year prison sentence for the crime of illicit enrichment, and the second, a three-year severe prison sentence for concealing information in the financial disclosure form. The court decided to apply the more severe penalty and obligated her to return funds exceeding 61 billion dinars, in addition to a financial fine equivalent to the value of the illicit enrichment.
Last August, the Central Bank of Iraq issued decisions to freeze the assets of 12 prominent political figures, including current and former members of parliament and a former advisor to the Prime Minister, including MP Alia Nassif, on charges related to combating corruption.
