US President Donald Trump hinted on Sunday at the possibility of a swift military strike against Iran targeting its remaining nuclear sites, arguing that Tehran’s military capabilities have become very weak.
Trump said in press statements that the “Axe Mountain” site, which contains nuclear facilities in Iran, must be dealt with, while at the same time refusing to discuss the possibility of resuming military strikes against Iran publicly and in front of the media.
Trump continued, saying: “We have severely weakened Iran’s naval and air capabilities,” noting that only a few Iranian nuclear sites remain and must be dealt with, while revealing the possibility of carrying out a rapid military operation by striking the remaining Iranian nuclear sites within 10 minutes, as he put it.
This escalation in rhetoric comes as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei directed the armed forces on Saturday to confront any level of threat, stressing that combat readiness is one of the requirements for achieving deterrence.
This came during his meeting with senior leaders of the Iranian armed forces, where Khamenei said that the armed forces and the Iranian people will determine when any military or terrorist attacks will end, should the “enemies” resume them.
