Shafaq News/ The Shiite coordination framework issued, at dawn today, Saturday, a statement regarding the “exclusion” of MP Basem Khashan from performing his parliamentary duties.
A statement received by Shafak News Agency stated, “The leaders of the coordination framework expressed their astonishment and denunciation of the way in which the Speaker of the House of Representatives behaved with Representative Basem Khashan and excluded him from participating in parliamentary committees, which is a constitutionally guaranteed right for every deputy.”
According to the statement, the leaders of the framework warned against “using these arbitrary methods with the representatives of the people,” calling for “a review of this decision and the preservation of the democratic path and keeping it away from personal and factional rivalries and positions.”
In the parliament session last Wednesday, Al-Halbousi said, “The deputy, Basem Khashan, is not added to any parliamentary committee, and he is not allowed any intervention unless he submits a written apology to the Presidency of the House of Representatives.”
As a result, dozens of supporters of Representative Khashan in the city of Samawah, the capital of Al-Muthanna Governorate in southern Iraq, demonstrated (Friday) against Al-Halbousi.
On May 7, Representative Khashan accused Iraqi Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi of committing “financial crimes” and violating the constitution, calling on the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to dismiss him based on documents he possesses.
