A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mustafa Al-Karawi, accused, on Wednesday, Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi of unilaterally taking power and decisions, while confirming that the budget is in Al-Halbousi’s office and is discussed by members of his office and advisors before sending it to the relevant committees.
Al-Karawi said, in an interview with Al-Information Agency, that “the work of the Finance Committee is now suspended, and a press conference will be held in the event that the budget is not sent from the Presidency of Parliament to the Finance Committee in order to complete the amendments in preparation for approval,” noting that “the budget remains in the office of the Speaker of Parliament.” It will delay its passage under the dome of Parliament.”
He continued, “Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi continues to monopolize power and decisions through many political stances,” pointing out that “the latter now prepares reports and notes on the budget individually, away from the specialized committees.”
And the member of the Finance Committee concluded his speech: “The budget is now in Al-Halbousi’s office and is discussed by members of his office and advisors before sending it to the relevant committees in order to prepare reports of its acceptance or return it to the Council of Ministers.”
And the representative of the State of Law coalition, Muhammad Al-Shammari, had expressed his surprise at the behavior of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi in delaying sending the budget and his insistence on passing political laws, calling for revealing the real reason behind hiding the budget.
