Shafaq News/ On Monday, the coordination framework called on the government and security services to provide protection for independent MPs, who claimed that they were being subjected to “threats”.
This comes in the midst of attempts to mobilize independent deputies to join one of the two sides of the dispute – saving a homeland and the coordination framework – over the formation of the new government.
In a statement received by Shafak News Agency, Al-Attar expressed his “rejection of the methods of intimidation and threats directed by well-known and unknown media platforms of political affiliation to the independent parliamentarians who made their political decision not to attend last Saturday’s session.”
He stressed, “The need to condemn these methods by all forces, actors, and political and societal personalities,” noting that “these acts are a confiscation of freedom of expression, and they are a legal violation that punishes those who commit them according to Iraqi law.”
Al-Attar continued, “These cheap methods have become exposed and will not affect the morale and will of the members of the House of Representatives, who have the full will and the right to express their opinion and take their decisions away from threats and temptations,” noting, “The method of attaching the accusation of employment to the free patriots who are not subject to Neither temptation nor threat is an uncivilized and immoral method.”
The coordination framework called on the government and the security services to “provide protection for independent representatives.”
The House of Representatives failed, the day before yesterday, Saturday, to hold a special session to elect the President of the Republic, after boycotting more than 125 deputies. 220 deputies in the session out of a total of 329 members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
As a result, the session turned into a regular session, and the Presidency of Parliament set a session next Wednesday to elect the President of the Republic.
