Shafaq News/ The Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that it had agreed to an immediate ceasefire with India, days after the two countries exchanged attacks.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said that his country “has always sought to achieve peace and security in the region, without compromising sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The minister added that approximately 30 countries participated in active diplomatic efforts to stop the war, noting the “activation of military channels and hotlines between India and Pakistan.”
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also confirmed that “an understanding has been reached with Pakistan regarding a ceasefire and military action,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority announced the reopening of its airspace to all flights, following the announcement by Islamabad, New Delhi, and Washington of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, following days of closure.
The Pakistani-Indian announcement came after US President Donald Trump confirmed that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full, immediate ceasefire.”
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “After a long night of talks brokered by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have reached a full and immediate ceasefire.”
The US President added: “Congratulations to both countries for using wisdom, common sense, and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Later, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that he and US Vice President J.D. Vance had been in contact with senior Indian and Pakistani officials over the past 48 hours.
“I am pleased to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire,” he wrote on Twitter.
“The governments of India and Pakistan will begin talks on a wide range of issues in a neutral location,” Rubio added.
It’s worth noting that this unprecedented tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors began with the deadly attack on April 22 that killed 26 people in the tourist town of Pahalgam, in the Kashmir region, over which both countries have disputed full sovereignty since its partition at independence in 1947. India accused Islamabad of sponsoring the attackers, while Pakistan categorically denied the allegations.
Until India launched drone attacks on Pakistani territory last Wednesday, prompting Islamabad to respond in kind, escalating tensions between the two countries and raising military alert.
The Pakistani military then announced the launch of Operation Solid Structure at dawn today in response to Indian attacks targeting three air bases, noting that it had struck several Indian sites.
