The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, on Monday, that the House of Representatives will begin its legislative recess for two months once it votes on the budget schedules, indicating that the session to elect the Speaker of Parliament will not force the House to hold an emergency session during its legislative recess.
Committee member MP Muhammad Anouz told Al-Maalouma, “It is expected to vote on the 2024 budget tables during today’s session, and therefore the Council will enjoy its legislative recess for two months after it postponed it due to the arrival of the budget tables to the Council.”
He added, “The session to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives will be transferred to the next legislative term due to Parliament enjoying its legislative recess. The Presidency of the Council cannot hold an emergency session of the Council to elect the Speaker of Parliament during the recess, except in the cases indicated in the bylaws of the House of Representatives.”
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives will hold today, Monday, a voting session on the amended schedules of Federal Budget Law No. (13) and its annexes, Schedules (A, B, C, E, F).
