Shafaq News/ The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, warned on Wednesday against tampering with the upcoming parliamentary elections through political money, stressing that Iraq will not return to the days of coups and conspiracies .
“Iraq is about to hold elections that will consolidate the electoral system, and integrity must prevail, far from political capital and manipulation ,” Maliki said in a televised address, followed by Shafaq News Agency.
He added, “The stability of the political process depends on elections. Peaceful change will not happen without them, and Iraq will not return to the days of coups and conspiracies.” He explained, “Elections are a duty for citizens to participate in, and failure to participate will not solve the problems and corruption in Iraq .”
He pointed out that “Iraq conducted the electoral process smoothly,” explaining that “the last elections did not meet the required level in terms of participation, despite religious fatwas requiring participation .”
Al-Maliki affirmed that “Iraq is making steady progress toward the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of elections as a fundamental element in ensuring democracy and empowering the nation to play its role in managing the political process .”
Al-Maliki stressed that “those who want or reject the political process have no choice but to go to the ballot box to achieve change or to elect a parliament capable of legislating and overseeing .”
Al-Maliki concluded by “affirming the existence of a danger surrounding the elections,” expressing his willingness to discuss the matter later, and calling on citizens to “adhere to an agreement and contract to protect the electoral process and reject any instances of manipulation or corruption .”
