Shafaq News/ A parliamentary source said, on Wednesday, that the Presidency of the House of Representatives invited the candidates, “the biggest losers”, who have resigned from the Sadrist bloc’s deputies, to attend the session tomorrow, Thursday, while six of these substitutes refrained from attending because they are from the Sadrist bloc’s candidates.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, “According to the directives of the Presidency of the House of Representatives, the parliamentary constituency informed today 73 candidates of the highest (reserve) votes to attend a session tomorrow, Thursday, to take the constitutional oath instead of the resigned Sadrist bloc deputies.”
And he indicated that “the parliamentary department informed the reserve candidates to come to the parliament building at 11 am to hold the session and to take the constitutional oath.”
He pointed out that “six of the alternative candidates abstained from attending the session and submitted requests to the Independent High Electoral Commission to exempt them from membership in the House of Representatives, in compliance with the request of the Sadrist movement’s leader Muqtada al-Sadr for the resignation of his bloc’s deputies, as he is one of the Sadrist bloc’s candidates.”
The Sadrist bloc’s deputies had previously submitted their resignations from the Iraqi parliament at the request of their leader Muqtada al-Sadr, who announced earlier his withdrawal from the political process.
