Parliament holds a one-paragraph session tomorrow and expectations of a last-minute agreement{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The House of Representatives will hold its regular session tomorrow, Saturday, to discuss the electoral districts clause of the election law only.
According to a parliamentary source, the session will be held “at twelve o’clock in the afternoon.”
The deputy of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Hassan Ali, said, “The parliament will discuss in a special session Saturday the election law, explaining that the political blocs have not reached any agreement on holding elections in one or several electoral districts, preferring to hold elections in medium and not large electoral districts.” .
For its part, Almas Fadel, a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, confirmed that the blocs are serious about the need to resolve the election law soon, pointing out that there are differences between the blocks on the electoral districts.
She stressed, “the existence of political and geographical differences between the blocs and may lead to rapprochement and agreement in the last moments.”
It is noteworthy that the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, earlier called on the political forces to complete the election law and attend the Saturday session devoted to the law.
Al-Halbousi said in a tweet on his Twitter account: “It has become imperative to complete the electoral districts to implement a just and fair law for holding early elections that meet the aspirations of the people and express their will.”
He added, “Therefore, I call on all political forces to assume their responsibilities to implement the law and attend the session on Saturday, September 26, whose agenda will be in one paragraph dedicated to completing the electoral districts.”
