On Friday evening, the Pakistani army expressed cautious optimism regarding mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, while warning of powerful parties that it said were seeking to obstruct these efforts.

Army spokesman Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that Pakistan has no objection to Iran joining the (Mecca) agreement, noting that the decision rests with the parties concerned.

Chaudhry added that sending more troops to defend Saudi Arabia depends on developments in the situation and the political decision.

US President Donald Trump had asserted earlier that the situation regarding Iran would change very soon, the war would end soon, and gasoline prices would then decrease, according to him.

Trump’s remarks come at a time when the Israeli newspaper Maariv revealed on Friday that the Israeli security establishment had detected signs indicating American preparations ahead of the midterm elections in the United States to launch an attack on Iran.

The newspaper stated that Israel is “preparing for another round of confrontation with Iran, given that the Israeli security establishment has detected signs indicating large-scale American military preparations in the region.”

On Thursday, US Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said that he and a group of senators had been briefed on possible plans to launch attacks on Iran, describing those plans as “crazy”.
