A security source in Anbar province announced on Friday that US convoys loaded with military equipment and vehicles were moving from Baghdad and the northern provinces towards Ain al-Assad base west of Anbar, coinciding with the arrival of additional forces.
In a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, the source said, “The US forces stationed at the US embassy in Baghdad and Erbil Governorate sent large reinforcements to the Ain al-Assad base in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district, west of Anbar, coinciding with the arrival of new additional airborne forces without knowing the true motives behind the operations of sending military reinforcements to the base building for the second day in a row.”
The source added that “the increase in the number of US forces at Ain al-Assad base is taking place as part of preparations for an expected US operation, the details of which are not yet clear.” He explained that “the US reinforcements also coincided with the international coalition forces conducting training operations for their forces inside the US embassy and al-Assad base.”
He added, “The Al-Assad base witnessed, over the past few hours, the landing of cargo planes believed to be carrying soldiers and military equipment.”
