Economist - Delaying the approval of the 2025 budget schedules disrupts projects and affects the economyEconomic expert Nabil Al Marsoumi confirmed today, Saturday, that it is certain that the 2025 budget will include changes in the quantities of exported oil and some financial allocations.
Al-Marsoumi added in his interview with {Euphrates News} that “Iraqi budgets usually do not reach parliament before March of each year, and it is natural for them to be delayed until after March.”

He pointed out that “when the budget is delayed, spending becomes operational, and the three-year budget was not supposed to be in this direction, but rather financial spending would be released instead of being withheld pending approval of the schedules, and when this happens, the three-year budget loses its importance.”

Al Marsoumi added: “Any delay in approving the schedules leads to a delay in launching programs and projects, and even in the directions that affect the government’s direction. The government was supposed to expedite the preparation of the schedules, especially since they do not require or call for delay, because they relate to the changes that occur in the 2025 budget compared to what existed in previous years.”

Al-Marsoumi stressed that “delaying the approval of the schedules disrupts economic work and disrupts the work of the government and governorates, especially since many contractors are demanding their financial dues, and some projects require the release of financial amounts. When spending stops while waiting for the schedules, it hinders government work in the economic field.”
