The tourist city of Habbaniyah in Anbar province is heading towards a new phase of development and reconstruction, which includes the construction of a hotel and 377 chalets, the rehabilitation of recreational and service facilities, and the creation of a safari city, in a project aimed at reviving one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Iraq, and stimulating economic activity in the province.

The director of the Habbaniyah Tourist City, Muayad Al-Mashouh, told Shafaq News Agency that the project has entered a new phase after an agreement was reached with a new investment company to undertake the development and reconstruction work, indicating that the agreement was made in the presence of the Minister of Culture and the Governor of Anbar, in preparation for starting the work during this week.

He added that the most prominent projects planned for implementation include the construction of a hotel and 377 chalets, in addition to the rehabilitation and development of a number of recreational facilities, including the disco, the tent and the games, as well as the development of gardens and restaurants, most notably the Baghdadi Restaurant, which will bring these facilities back to the forefront of tourist activity in the city.

Al-Mashouh explained that the plan also includes the creation of an integrated safari city and the completion of its facilities, noting that the development work will be concentrated on the other side of the city, allowing visitors to continue to be received and the tourist city not to be closed during the implementation period, while part of the administration and operating facilities will remain in service.

He pointed out that the project includes an additional expansion that will be presented in the coming days, while the reconstruction work is expected to continue until July 2027, according to the established timetable, expressing his hope that this step will contribute to restoring the city to its former tourist status.

Economically, economist Ahmed Al-Karbouli told Shafaq News Agency that the reconstruction of the tourist city of Habbaniyah represents an important opportunity to stimulate the local economy in Anbar, especially since the effects of tourism projects are not limited to the hotel and entertainment sector, but extend to the transportation, trade, restaurant, services and related activities sectors.

He explained that the implementation of the project will provide direct job opportunities for the people of the governorate in the fields of construction, management, operation and tourism services, as well as indirect job opportunities that will arise as a result of increased demand for local products and support services.

Al-Karbouli pointed out that the return of tourism activity will have a positive impact on small and medium-sized enterprises, craftsmen, restaurant owners, markets and transportation services, and will also encourage investors to direct their capital towards new projects in the governorate.

He stressed that the economic importance of the project is linked to its ability to continue and operate effectively after the completion of reconstruction work, in addition to providing basic services and creating a stable investment environment, which will ensure attracting visitors from within Anbar and other governorates, and transforming the city into an economic resource that contributes to diversifying local income sources.

The tourist city of Habbaniyah, located on the shores of Lake Habbaniyah in Anbar province, is one of Iraq’s most prominent tourist and recreational destinations, but it has witnessed a decline in the quality of its services and facilities in recent years. This new development project is part of efforts to revitalize the tourism sector and attract investment and visitors to the province.
