The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, called on the federal government to participate in the Peshmerga forces in protecting the disputed areas and the continued support of the international coalition against ISIS.
Barzani said that “the continuous repetition and expansion of terrorist attacks in Iraq, especially in the areas covered by the constitutional Article 140, has created dangerous and complex conditions for the residents of those areas of all religious and national components, who have long been subjected to threats of death, kidnapping and displacement, and recently their agricultural crops are exposed Constantly to arson and they are being targeted daily through brutal terrorist attacks and martyrs. ”
He added, “As we have repeatedly warned in the past about the gravity of the situation, we reaffirm that the continuation of these conditions threatens security, stability and coexistence, and for the purpose of addressing the dangers and to protect the lives and property of the citizens and components of those areas,” calling for “the need to take a more effective mechanism for cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan region and cooperation Between the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces and the continued support of the international coalition against ISIS. ”
Barazni pointed out that “the terrorists take advantage of the security vacuum in these areas, and the Kurdistan Region Presidency will make in this context all its efforts and devote all its capabilities to this purpose.”
He continued, “The recent terrorist attack on two of the villages of Kakaiya in the Khanaqin region, which resulted in the martyrdom and wounding of a number of citizens, is a vivid example of the dangerous and complex development in the situation, which requires urgent steps to be taken to prevent the recurrence of similar attacks.”
