MP Firas Al-Maslamawi confirmed today, Wednesday, that the political blocs agree not to hold any session without the Sunnis agreeing on only one candidate.
Al-Maslamawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The mechanism for choosing the Speaker of Parliament is still disputed by the Sunni blocs, although the meetings between these blocs have not stopped, but there is no consensus on a specific figure.”
He added: “The Sunni blocs must unite and agree on one non-controversial figure to resolve this issue,” indicating that “the political blocs agreed not to hold any session without the Sunnis agreeing on only one candidate.”
He explained that “the continued delay of this entitlement will reflect on the political, security, economic and social stability in the country,” noting that “the Coordination Framework is still working hard to resolve this entitlement.”
It is worth noting that the current legislative session has only a year and a half left in the absence of any solutions to nominate a person to win the position of Speaker of Parliament.
