Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and a US Senate delegation discussed reducing the number of US advisers in Iraq.
A statement by the Prime Minister’s Office said that Abbadi received in his office Tuesday a delegation from the US Senate. The delegation included Sen. Linsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, a member of the financial allocations, the Armed Services Committee and the senator. Elizabeth Warren is a Massachusetts Democrat, a member of the Armed Services Committee, US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Seelman, General Paul Fink, commander of the International Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, and a number of advisers in the US Senate.
“During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two countries, supporting Iraq in all areas and conditions in the region and reducing the number of American advisers in Iraq,” he said.
“The ability of the Iraqi forces and their victory over gangs,” he said, “supports the liberation of Iraqi territory and the protection of civilians.”
