Member of the State of Law Coalition, Ahmed Al-Sudani, confirmed today, Tuesday, that canceling the security agreement with the United States of America is the first step to withdrawing its forces from Iraq.
Al-Sudani said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The recent dialogues with the American administration did not lead to anything new regarding the presence of its forces inside Iraq,” noting that “the American bases deployed in Iraq are still continuing their missions.”
He added, “Ending the security agreement will be one of the options that will be resorted to in order to ensure the withdrawal of these forces, especially since this presence is no longer justified.”
He explained that “Washington does not disclose the real numbers of its military forces, and even the Iraqi government itself does not know the numbers of these forces deployed on its territory,” noting that “the statements that confirm the absence of combat forces in the country are false.”
A report translated by Al-Maalouma Agency revealed earlier that there are about 2,500 soldiers in Iraq under the pretext of fighting ISIS, refuting the Foreign Ministry’s statement that there are no military forces in the country.
