Former Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie said Tuesday that the Biden administration’s policies in the Middle East and its weaknesses have left U.S. troops like hunting ducks abroad, after at least five American soldiers were wounded in an apparent rocket attack on an air base in Iraq.

“Let’s look at what’s happening on the ground in the Middle East. We have 2,500 troops in Iraq, 4,000 in Jordan, and 900 in Syria, and that doesn’t include what we have in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden,” Wilkie said, according to a report translated by Al-Maalouma Agency.

The report added that “Wilkie acknowledged the weakness of the Biden administration, the decline of American influence, and the strength of the attacks launched by the resistance axis factions, especially the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, which stopped shipping routes in the Red Sea region,” noting that “the resistance factions succeeded in launching more than 200 attacks, which put American forces in a position of easy prey.”

Wilkie said that “this also paves the way for a greater danger” when “America withdraws and refuses to protect its forces. Everything is on the table in that region, and everything I have seen and the people I have spoken to discuss the possibility of a simultaneous attack on the Israeli entity by the resistance factions.”

It is noteworthy that “Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on all parties to refrain from escalating tensions,” while Wilkie said that “the Biden administration’s incompetence and weakness put the United States and its interests at risk.”
