The Ministry of Transport stated that the Grand Faw Port project is proceeding steadily and rapidly towards achieving the national strategy of making Iraq a global logistics center.
The Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, stated that the Ministry is committed to the scheduled date for completing the five dock projects in the port next October, and has also recorded an increase in the pace of completing the navigation canal project at rates exceeding the plan after the special dredger began work last June.
He pointed out that the first layer of the road linking the port of Faw and the 51 km submerged tunnel will be completed at the beginning of next August, in addition to starting the inspection and analysis operations of the concrete blocks for the tunnel project and carrying out the packaging and preparation operations for the purpose of inspection next September, and floating the blocks at the end of this year.
Al-Safi noted that the Faw Port project is progressing steadily towards achieving the national strategy of making Iraq a global logistics center, due to its position in the new global trade routes, pointing out that the remaining work on the five docks is complementary, followed by linking them with the container yard, which will continue until next October, after which the final announcement will be made about the completion of work on the project to establish the container terminal for the Grand Faw Port.
